A Hidden Wine Country Gem: Domaine Fortier Vineyards in Lovettsville, Virginia

A Hidden Wine Country Gem: Domaine Fortier Vineyards in Lovettsville, Virginia

One of the things I love most about living in Western Loudoun County is how easy it is to stumble upon beautiful, unexpected places. Sometimes it happens while driving along a quiet country road, and sometimes it happens when someone mentions a small winery you may not have heard about yet.

That’s exactly how I discovered Domaine Fortier Vineyards — a boutique winery tucked into the peaceful Catoctin Valley just outside Lovettsville.

It’s the kind of place that perfectly captures the lifestyle people imagine when they think about living west of Leesburg.

A Boutique Winery in the Heart of Loudoun Wine Country

Domaine Fortier sits on a beautiful property between the Short Hill and Furnace Mountains in Northern Virginia wine country. The winery focuses on small-lot, handcrafted wines, carefully produced to reflect the character of Loudoun County’s growing wine region.

The Fortier family purchased the property in 2018 and worked with vineyard experts to evaluate the land and determine which grape varieties would thrive there. Today the estate includes roughly 34 acres with about 10 acres planted in vinifera grape varietals, part of a thoughtful, long-term approach to producing high-quality Virginia wines.

Even though it is relatively new compared with some of Loudoun’s established wineries, Domaine Fortier is already gaining attention for its elegant wines and relaxed vineyard setting.

A Relaxed Setting with Beautiful Views

One of the things I appreciate about Domaine Fortier is how unpretentious and peaceful it feels.

The tasting experience here is simple and authentic — exactly what many people hope to find when they explore Loudoun County wine country. Visitors can enjoy:

  • Outdoor pavilion seating with vineyard views

  • Cozy greenhouse seating and fire pits during cooler months

  • A welcoming indoor tasting room

  • Space to relax with friends and enjoy the scenery

It’s easy to spend an afternoon here, enjoying a glass of wine while taking in the surrounding countryside.

Handcrafted Wines with Loudoun County Character

The winery produces a range of wines that showcase Loudoun’s growing reputation for quality wine production.

Some of the wines you may encounter include:

  • Cabernet Franc

  • Petit Manseng

  • Chardonnay

  • White Merlot

  • Bordeaux-style blends

Several wines have already received strong recognition from wine critics and competitions, reflecting the care and precision that goes into the winemaking process.

For a newer winery, that kind of early recognition is impressive.
